I went to school near her hometown of Winchester, VA. We would go there often and see the Bell Tower built in her honor. The bell is without the clapper to symbolize that she sings no more. Really cool. Here's to a beautiful timeless singer.

She was almost killed in a severe car crash in 1961. She was thrown into the windshield and it left her forehead and scalp horribly scarred, along with a broken wrist and dislocated hip. From then on she had to wear heavy makeup and wigs to hid the injuries and headbands to help relieve the constant pain and pressure on her forehead. 2 years later in 1963, at the height of her career she was involved plane crash that took her life.
