My parents took us camping alot when I was young, and my mother liked to sing and play her acoustic guitar as we gathered around the bonfire in the evening. I remember she sang a number of songs, and this was one of them. I've always loved it because of that, but this is the first time I have heard it sung by anyone other than my mother. I just now have been surprised to notice my mother sang it exactly the same as Kathy Mattea does here. Exactly as I remember it

After more than half a century of marriage my friend and his wife had to be in separate nursing homes. He recently died, and his wife was brought to the funeral home for the service. Her wheelchair was right up against the coffin, and she spent the entire funeral service looking at her husband's face.
I looked at her, and could hear Kathy Mattea singing this song.

I lost my wife of 39 years 10 weeks ago to Alzheimers. An illness I would not wish on my worst enemy. This song made me cry. I love Kathy Mattea's voice. A wonderful song.
